Councilmember Peter Brown Talks Disaster Preparedness With Community Leaders

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Emphasizing flooding risks and steps Houston needs to take to prepare the electrical grid for the next big storm, Councilmember Peter Brown addressed community members and leaders as part of an event to raise awareness of disaster preparedness efforts in the City.

"We're talking about how to make this process better and how to solve problems that weren't solved after Ike. We've got to take measures to cut flooding down and to improve the electric grid," said Councilmember Peter Brown.

He joined Houston City Councilmember Jarvis Johnson, Texas State Representative Sylvester Turner, ministers, and other civic leaders in encouraging citizens, as well as government, to be better prepared for the next disaster.

The event was sponsored by G.R.A.C.E. Community Services, a faith-based disaster case management and education ministry dedicated to keeping the community informed about available resources to assist in the recovery/relief processes when disaster occurs.

"This is about communication between the responders and those who are impacted by natural disasters," said Councilmember Brown.
