Leaders in the Latino Community Gather In Support of Peter Brown
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Leaders from the Latino community gathered at the campaign headquarters on Monday to brainstorm ideas on building strong grassroots support for Peter Brown
About thirty prominent Latinos – community activists, law enforcement officials, business leaders, and educators were present for the discussion.
Peter Brown listened attentively to their ideas and feedback on a broad range of issues including education, flood control, strengthening the economy.
The group was particularly interested in hearing Peter’s ideas to address the lack of coordination between different policing forces. Peter has traveled throughout the country to talk to police chiefs and learn about the latest techniques working on the ground in urban areas.
Along with introducing hi-tech policing methods, he stressed that community members need to be active and engaged with their neighborhood police officers.
The group also talked about representation of minorities within the city government. Peter said he wants to make sure that the composition of the city government is representative of the cultural diversity that makes Houston great.
