Precinct Chairs Meet with Peter Brown to Discuss Lessons Learned from the 2008 Election

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Over thirty elected Precinct Chairs gathered at the Peter Brown for Houston office on February 23rd, 2009 to discuss their efforts and experiences during the 2008 election season.

The Peter Brown for Houston campaign gathered this unique group of people not for political purposes, but to learn directly from the grassroots what works to increase civic engagement.

The Precinct Chairs talked about their individual get-out-the-vote (GOTV) operations and hosting neighborhood meet-and-greets with the candidates leading up to the election. They also suggested taking advantage of structures already in place like neighborhood associations and civic clubs.

The Peter Brown for Houston staff took notes at the meeting and will incorporate the suggestions into the campaign’s voter outreach strategies.

“2008 was an important election year for the nation, and 2009 will be an important election for our City. I want to make sure I understand what worked and what didn’t, so that a record number of Houstonians participate in this campaign and vote in the November 3, 2009 election,” said Councilmember Peter Brown.

The meeting ran from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at 805 Rhode Place.
