Campaigning 101
March 02, 2009
We held a Young Professionals for Peter Brown (YP4PB) Steering Committee meeting today. I stopped by the meeting for a few minutes to talk to them about my background and ideas for Houston and got feedback from them.
YP4PB is a dynamic group that does not want Houston to be a secret no one else knows about. They’ve invested in Houston by moving here from other states, from the suburbs, or by choosing to stay in Houston. And they have strong ideas about what we need to do to keep Houston growing and give them a return on their investment.Talking with them about their ideas made me think a little bit about how I want my campaign to be run. The technology used for campaigns has changed a lot in just a few years. Websites are more interactive, social networking sites are invaluable, and updated voter databases make voter outreach easier.
But one thing won’t change. The most effective way to campaign is by getting people together in a room to talk.
Together, we are going to bring groups of people together on a regular basis. And then we’ll get back to basics; we’ll get together in a room and talk about issues that affect young professionals.
The first YP4PB event is Wednesday, March 25 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. It will be at Gravitas Restaurant, 807 Taft Street. I hope you’ll join us there!
